Diamond Hunting in Arkansas at the Crater of Diamonds State Park

“JC, mom and I are planning a trip to Arkansas to hunt for diamonds. She’s been wanting to go and I’m going to take her.”

“You are not leaving me behind. Let’s make it a girls getaway. Road tripping style.”

The only word I heard was ‘diamond’ and I knew I had to go on this trip. I’m currently in Louisiana and headed back to D.C. later this month. I looked up the Crater of Diamonds Park and realized it was only a short six hours for us. Three drivers and we would knock this trip out.

The Crater of Diamonds Park is located in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. A small town with a big heart. Over the past few years, I have been wanting to travel more in the United States. Yes, I love international travel, but there is something about road tripping. I did it as a kid a lot with my family but as an adult not-so-much.

When I posted I was diamond hunting in Arkansas many of my followers were shocked. Diamonds? In America? Yes, I know. The thought of diamonds in America seems far-fetched, but it’s true. Each year thousands of people, like myself, decide to go hunting in search of a fat rock.

Let’s get something straight. Diamond hunting is hard work. I read through everything and still wasn’t prepared for the physicality of it all. I loved every single second of hunting. The site gives all types of tips and tricks from how to sifting, what to look for, and what other minerals are found in the park. The best hunting is after a rainstorm and it makes for a perfect family outing as well. There were quite a few children out with us and to see the joy on their faces while they played in the mud made this kid at heart happy.

Murfreesboro is a tiny town with a big heart. Every person I met was funny, smart, and gave their two cents on diamond hunting, the Ka-Do-Ha Indian Village, and who had the best-fried fruit pies. We stayed at the Queen of Diamonds Inn and it was perfect for us. The rooms have microwaves and refrigerators. It’s a must for any road trip to bring our own snacks. Murfreesboro is a dry county so bring your own alcohol.

We spent two days hunting, laughing, playing in the mud, and having a great time.

Did we find diamonds? No.

Do I think the experience was worth it? Absolutely.

Would I do it again? Yes.

We are already planning a return to the Crater of Diamonds State Park in April 2018 and we are going to the well-known Hot Springs. After all the diamond hunting a girl must rejuvenate.
