January Reading List

There are so many good books out right now and I always say I don't have enough time to read them all. I'm hoping to read a least 40 books this year and so far I have already read three and I'm currently on my fourth. With a little, less than two weeks to go in the month and I am hoping I can get through one more. 

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. A few years ago I got into young adult books and I continue to add them to my reading lists. I had heard of Nicola Yoon and she was on my radar, but when a good friend called and said you really should read her sooner rather than later and at least before the movie. Movie? What movie? There's a movie? Yes. I am so glad I read it. Trust me. Pick it up and read it. It's so good even if you don't think young adult books are for you. In my head, Nicola and are BFFs based on this one statement from her. 

"In a former life, I was French. I could live entirely on wine & cheese."

Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes. I discovered this book from Alicia who I now consider my book twin. Our Goodreads list is similar and when she suggested this book I am immediately downloaded it from my library. I started to read it and when I got to the violent parts I had to do one thing. Put. it. down. I realized I needed to read this during the day. I can take violence, but I was till like - whoa!

Missing, Presumed by Susie Steiner. This book had been on my list for awhile and when the library sent the notice that it was available for me to check out I was happy. I love a good crime novel and happy to add Susie to the list of authors I want to continue to read. I keep an ever-running list of books by character and I can't wait to add Detective Manon to that list. The second book in the series comes out in June. 

The Meaning of Michelle: 16 Writers on the Iconic First Lady and How Her Journey Inspires Our Own by Veronica Chambers. The minute Tia recommended this book I went and ordered it. I had to have this book and add it to my Obama collection. There isn't enough time in the day to say what First Lady Michelle Obama has meant to me. To see someone who looks like me, smart, classy, elegant, and tough in the White House these past 8 years are hard to put into words. Thank goodness Veronica did it for me. 

You'll Grow Out of It by Jessi Klein. I needed a laugh-out-loud funny book to help me relax in the evening and this one delivers. I didn't know who Jess Klein was before this book, my bad, but I am so glad I discovered her. 

I keep saying this is the year I am going to read the Elena Ferrante series, but I think I need a long beach vacation to do so. Every time I start it doesn't seem to hold my attention like it does for so many people. Hopefully, I can start and finish all of them this year.
